Founders Message
For all those generous people who walk along wondering if they could help out and contribute to a bigger cause, The Founders of 'Serving Up A Cure' (SUAC) would like to share our dream with you ... If you have energy, a desire for local service and a sense of gratitude to give back through community, and Tennis, The Serving Up A Cure charity Tennis tournament is your home.
For the founders of this charity tennis tournament, Brian Monroe, Bill Sharp and Tom Gable, the birth of Serving Up A Cure was simple. We wanted to combine an inner sense of purpose to bring together our long-standing love for the Deerwood community, our many meaningful friendships in Tennis and our own personal desire to serve up a cure to Cancer locally here is Jacksonville. We started the SUAC Tennis Charity Tournament in 2011 with a modest 60 teams but were able to raise and give away $15,000 in our inaugural year.
Over the last 10 years, we have been able to raise and give away over $320,000 in total to local Cancer treatment and research organizations. Our mission statement is simple "Helping Jacksonville cure Cancer". Serving Up A Cure relies on volunteers with much of the event's expenses being covered by sponsorships, Tennis players and in-kind donations from local businesses and individuals. All funds go directly to the charities we serve - The Ellie Kavalieros DIPG Fund, The Gabriel House of Care and Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
Lastly, we owe a tremulous amount of gratitude towards all of our volunteers, committee members and the Tennis community in general who take valuable time out of their schedules each year to work for the wonderful charities we serve. We all like to say "when no one wants the credit for all their hard work, it truly is a labor of love". This is the way our committee and team at SUAC views its contributions to our cause.
Please visit our website at www.servingupacure.com to learn how to contribute or get involved in our cause. Our 11th annual event will be a fun tennis tournament for all to enjoy at the Deerwood Country Club Tennis Courts, June 4th - 6th 2023.
